About this theme
A real dark mode, not a filter
ZenTheme Pro ships two complete, independent color systems, one for light and one for
dark. In the Custom look each has its own brand, text, link, surface and border
colors, set separately under Colors and Dark mode colors in theme settings. The
Graphite and Atrium looks derive both modes from your brand color. Visitors switch
modes with a toggle in the header ("Show light/dark toggle"); their choice is
remembered and re-applied before the page first paints, so there's no flash of the
wrong theme on load. You can also choose the default mode new visitors see:
matching their system setting, or always light or always dark.
Three looks, one theme
Pick a look with the Look setting under Style. Each one works in light and dark.
Custom: the default, and what existing installs keep. Every color, font and stylesetting is yours.
Graphite: dark-first and near-monochrome, with Geist and Geist Mono type, hairlineborders and no shadows. It composes its own home, article, section, category, community, header, 404 and footer. Home categories show as a contents index withthe first three articles of each, or as a numbered list.
Atrium: a friendly bento look with Bricolage Grotesque and Figtree type and softtinted tiles on the home, article, category and section pages. Search, communityand request pages take its colors and type.
Graphite and Atrium tint their neutrals from your brand color, so the same look
reads differently on every Help Center. The fonts are bundled with the theme under
the SIL Open Font License.
⌘K search on every page
Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) or use the Search button in the header.
Results appear as you type, with a two-line snippet and the matching words in bold.
When it opens, it shows up to three recently opened articles and quick actions such assubmitting a request and switching mode.
Arrow keys move, Enter opens, Esc closes. Screen readers get a combobox with a liveregion that announces the results.
It stays out of the way in text fields, so the comment editor and request form areuntouched. Without JavaScript, the normal search box still works.
Every page follows the mode, not just the homepage
Dark mode isn't cosmetic paint on the hero. It follows the visitor everywhere:
Request forms re-theme fully, including form fields, the rich-text toolbar andfile upload controls.
Service catalog and approval request pages pick up the same palette, sonothing reverts to a default look mid-flow.
Flash notifications, ticket field components and the request list all followsuit, because every part of the theme shares the same light/dark state.
Community, built for actual communities
Three distinct community topic layouts, Index, Ledger and Showcase, are available in
the Custom and Atrium looks. Each is a different information design: a numbered list
view, a two-column ledger with a featured topic, and an image-led showcase grid.
They are not three color variants of one template. In Custom and Atrium, add:
A featured first topic, with its own featured-posts style
Live topic activity: post counts, last-activity timestamps, initials avatars
An optional community hero with its own title, text and image position
Graphite has its own community composition: one layout for every topic, no hero image.
Layout, type and branding, all settings, no code
Header: three header layouts, a sticky option, an optional header border, anoptional request button, several header styles, and up to four custom linkslayered on top of category navigation.
Fonts (Custom look): pick from a built-in web-safe stack for headings and body textindependently, or load a fully custom font by name and URL, with independentscale, weight and letter-spacing controls for headings.
Logo: a separate logo for dark mode, with independent height controls fordesktop and mobile.
Style system (Custom look): corner style, card style and hover effect, card columns, link underline style, several button styles/shapes/sizes, content width, density andshadow strength. A design system, not a color picker.
No feature locks
Every setting in the theme is in the Standard license: all three looks, custom
fonts, the full header (layouts, sticky, border, custom links), both color palettes,
logo sizing, community layouts and the whole style system. Nothing is held back for a
higher tier. The optional Developer license adds one thing only: full source-code
access for your own Zendesk account through Zendesk's "Edit code", for teams that want to
extend the theme themselves. Updates keep arriving in Theming Center until you edit
the code; after that, Zendesk no longer delivers new versions to that copy.
Accessible in light and dark mode
axe-core: 0 serious / 0 critical in all three looks, light and dark (Custom and Graphite on Tallyfield, Atrium on Pebblory).
Tested with axe-core (WCAG 2.0/2.1 A and AA rules) on home, category, section,
article, community, request form and search pages. The default light and dark
palettes meet WCAG AA contrast, and muted text is derived from each palette so it
stays readable when you change colors.
Structured data for search engines and AI assistants
Article pages carry schema.org Article markup (headline, publish and update
dates, body) in the page HTML, and breadcrumb trails carry schema.org
BreadcrumbList markup, so search engines and AI assistants that read structured
data can understand how your help content is organized.
Built on the current Copenhagen base
ZenTheme Pro tracks upstream Copenhagen and currently ships on v4.51.4 with
Templating API v4. The search results page keeps Copenhagen's generative
answers placement, so Zendesk's AI-generated search answers show up there when
you turn them on in your account. Zendesk is forcing all legacy (API v1–v3) themes onto v4 by
July 31, 2027. Sites on ZenTheme Pro are already there, with no forced
migration project ahead of that deadline.
